Elizabet II, "Her Majesty", -only she is "HM" because the rest of the Royal Family members are "HRH" (stands for His or Her Royal Highness), has got two birthdays: one of them on 21st of April (her personal birthday) and the other (the official) on 11th of June because the weather in Britain is better in that month.
This year she celebrates her ninety-second birthday and she is the Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms since sixty-six years ago when her father, George VI, suddenly died.
She is the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, more than her great-great-grandmother: Queen Victoria.
She is also head of the Church of England.

Her family name is Windsor.
Her favourite sports are fishing or horse riding and horse racing. She likes horses. She also owns a number of dogs: corgis, because she loves them!
Maybe in the future her eldest son Prince Charles will become King after her and after him in the "line of succession" goes his son, Prince William.
Meanwhile: "God save the Queen".

This is a beautiful story of overcoming. Helen Keller's story, a deaf and blind educator who overcame great handicaps to become whatever she proposed to herself.

In the introduction of our English Corner we think about her as inspiration in our work, study... and in our lives in general. An example of woman for the rest of people.
We mustn't forget: "Where there's a will, there's a way".

Watch her story here.

Queen Elizabeth II has got two birthdays: the actual that usually spends it privately (on April 21) and the official in June when the weather is better in Britain.

While the actual is celebrated with gun salutes in Hyde Park, in Windsor Great Park and at the Tower of London, the official is celebrated by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour.

That day she appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace by other members of the Royal Family, and she presides The Trooping of Colour parade which moves between Buckingham Palace, The Mall and Horseguards’ Parade. She travels by carriage.
It's spectacular!

Last year, dressed in a vivid lime green coat, the Queen smiled and waved to crowds like every year of her reign, except in 1955 when it was cancelled due to a rail strike.

Next Saturday 17th June 2017 we will see the Queen again, celebrating her 91st birthday.

International Women's Day is a holiday that honours women and promotes women's rights.
It takes place every year on March 8.
This day dates back to 1911, when lots of women were fighting for the right to vote.
The United Nations (UN) began sponsoring it in 1975.
We remember some outstanding women here, but every day women make history and every day is women's day.

Next Thursday 23rd June people of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will vote; they need to make a choice: be in the EU (European Union) or leave it.
Some British people don’t want to be in the EU now, the name for this is Brexit: Britain + Exit = Brexit.
Other people think the EU (twenty-eight countries from Europe, who work together) is good and they don’t want to change it because this could bring big economic problems in the future.
It’s a difficult question and lots of people don’t know what to do but... it’s time to decide!.
