"If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books" Roald Dahl.

He was one of the most popular children's authors around the world, publishing 21 children's books (as well as many adult stories) including the well-known Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Gremlins, James and the Giant Peach or The BFG.

He was born in Cardiff (Wales) in 1916 and he died in Oxford (England) in 1990.
Last 13th September (Roald Dahl's birthday) has been declared "Roald Dahl Day", so this is a good excuse to re-read some of his wonderful stories or learn a little bit more about Roald Dahl at our school.

Don't forget his beautiful and sensible words:
"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage".

Enjoy yourself!!

Next 23rd April 2016 will be the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
William Shakespeare was one of the greatest ever English writers. He wrote poems (sonnets) and lots of plays; some of them were dramas, other were tragedies or romantic comedies.
Some of Shakespeare’s better known plays include "Hamlet", "Romeo & Juliet" or "Much Ado About Nothing".
He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon (England) in 1564.
In 1599, he built with some young actors a theatre on the South Bank of the River Thames which he named "The Globe". Many of his plays were performed in it.

Who is he?

He is a bear; one of the UK’s favourite children’s book characters. He was created by Michael Bond many years ago.

But now... you can watch him in his new film from 6th January (in Spain): Paddington.

He comes from Peru, but travels to London to find a home and arrives to Paddington Station (this is his name's reason).

He lives with the Brown family at 32 Windsor Gardens and his favourite food is marmalade sandwiches.

To celebrate the release of this new film, fifty statues of Paddington Bear were put on the streets around London until 30th December (after that date the bears were for sale).

They have been placed next to famous icons in the city: The Big Ben, The London Eye, Paddington Station, The Globe Theatre...

If possible, go to the cinema and have a good time with this intrepid bear!
