Martin Luther King was the most famous African American in the History of the USA.

Americans celebrate his day on the third Monday of January each year, the month in which he was born (1929 Atlanta, Georgia).

He is considered an American hero who worked for civil rights in the United States in the 1950s and 60s.

He fought for the rights and also against poverty of African Americans.

In 1955 a black woman, Rosa Parks, was arrested because she didn't give up her seat to a white person on a bus. This incident made many blacks angry .They protested and decided to boycott the city's buses. Martin Luther King became the president of this boycott.

In the 1960s he and his organisation started more and more protest marches and demonstrations.

In 1963 Martin Luther King organized a big protest march in Washington D.C. Hundreds of thousands of Americans, black and white, took part. At the Lincoln Memorial, King held his most famous speech : "I have a dream!"

On April 4, 1968 he was killed.

In January 1863 the London Underground opened for the first time, so now it celebrates its 150th birthday!

Most Londoners call it “the Tube” and it is one of the icons of the capital city.

Nowadays, it is very busy because over three million people travel on it every day – often travelling to and from work.

There are 275 stations – and 408 kilometres of track now (but in 1863, it had just six stations, and ten kilometres of train track).

The Underground does not run 24 hours a day except at New Year and during major public events such as the Queen's Jubilee and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics.

First trains start operating from approximately 04:45, running until around 01:00.

It does not operate on Christmas Day, except for the service to Heathrow Airport.
